Social pressures have caused those that are not of white heritage to succumb to the ideal Western culture (Vincent Parrillo 40). With that, the outlook on how one should look has expanded to other countries in order to fit their superior stature. This, in turn, relates to back to Xiaowei’s story about becoming a diplomat. In order to be superior, one must look like the ones that already are.
