When one compares the film Igby Goes Down to the novel Grendel, obvious similarities arise. One of these similarities that can be found is between the characters Oliver "Ollie" Slocumb and the Dragon. For starters, material possessions are the only things that matter to either of the two. Although for different reasons, both characters live their lives with one common goal; to collect as much wealth as possible. Another trait that both Ollie and the Dragon have in common is their cynical view towards life. Neither of them seem to care about anything, and they both cannot be fully trusted. Lastly, both characters act as a sort of antagonist to each story's protagonist. For these reasons, one can easily draw a comparison between Ollie and the Dragon.
The fact that wealth is the only thing that matters to Ollie or the Dragon, is the biggest similarity that these two characters share. Ollie grew up in a rich family and had every advantage a kid could have;......
