When considering globalization and its mixed blessings, the phrase "leave well enough alone" comes to my mind. While globalization does have its benefits, the sharing of scientific and medical knowledge, increasing the revenues of "the world's poorest countries," one cannot deny without being ignorant that there are negative ramifications. I believe one also needs to consider that as international tourism spreads, as commoditization takes place, one is destroying the assets; the culture, wildlife, and sights. When these things become commodities they lose their authenticity, which is what spurred the tourism in the first place. When their demand decreases the tourist countries will be left in shambles, no longer being able to take in the revenue they have grown accustomed to.
It seems the only global tourist industry that should have no fear is the sex industry. The sexual exploitation of "both adults and children in poor countries" is absolutely disgusting. In most cases......
