1. HISTORICAL FACTS IN PRIVATIZATION PROCESS
Following the Depression, World War II and the end of colonial rule, government ownership was perceived as necessary to promote growth and ensure certain basic services, such as water supply, electricity, gas, telecom, and air and rail transportation. Ignited by the Margaret Thatcher government in the mid-1980s, privatization started to proliferate in both the developing and developed world. [Megginson and Netter, 2001; Kikeri and Kolo, 2005].
