1984 by George Orwell
1984 takes place in the near future in London, England under a totalitarian government. The main characters in 1984 are Winston Smith, who is an intelligent 39-yeal-old who has a huge problem with the current government, O'Brien who is a powerful, yet strange member of the Brotherhood, which is a group dedicated to the hatred of the totalitarian government, or the Party, and Julia, who is Winston's girlfriend who works for the Ministry of Truth (Which is one of the four ministries in Oceania, and the Ministry of Truth actually does the opposite of what the name implies.), who is rebellious in a smaller, more personal way.
The problem in 1984 is plain and obvious: everywhere everyone goes, there is an omnipresent, and oppressive government, with Big Brothers (The supposed ruler of Oceania) face on everything.
