Bang! I hit the bar again. That was 2 of three shots I had at clearing this height. If I clear this I'm going to the NY state meet. Everyone is glaring at me as I crawl off the pits distraught. "Hold your arch, and you've got it. You've got the height to clear it," my coach chanted. After the little pep talk I watched every other competitor miss the height. I grew more and more timid every time the bar was hit. Though I told myself repetitively ‘I can't give up, I'm better than this.' It was my opportunity again at this height. I wasn't going to give up. I knew I could clear this height even though everyone hit it. I kept my eyes closed as I was soaring over the bar on my last attempt at 6' 2". When I opened my eyes again I heard the crowd cheering. I cleared it. From that day on my life had changed. This taught me that if I put my mind to something and be dogged, I could accomplish anything in life.
