Sickle cell crisis (HgbSS) is a debilitating disorder characterized by blood cells changing into a sickle shape as a result of stressful conditions such as exhaustion, hypoxia, severe infection, or even cold temperatures. "The term sickle cell disease (SCD) is used in a generic sense to refer to all the clinically severe sickling syndromes" (Desai,Dhanani, 2002).
