Obesity has become a major issue in America and the numbers are only increasing. Surrounding this issue is a debate between researchers and critics about why and how people become overweight or obese. Critics say it’s because people eat whatever and how much they want and don’t have the willpower to stop them selves. Researchers say it’s a genetic factor. They believe that people are born with certain genes and biological traits that cause them to gain weight and keep it. The following will compare and contrast the views from both sides.
Author Greg Crister is one of those critics that believe obesity is no one’s fault but their own. He believes it has nothing to do with genetics and biological factors and that people choose to be overweight.
