Candace Whitcomb died that evening shortly after Alma finished singing. Wilson ran over to the side of the bed and wept aloud in grief of his aunt’s death. Alma had tears slowly trickling down her frail white cheeks.
“Oh, Wilson I can’t believe she is gone.” cried Mrs. Ford. “I simple can’t believe it.”
Wilson stood up to comfort his mother. Mrs. Ford leaned her head on his shoulder. Alma went to Candace’s side and knelt down and gazed upon the old woman’s face and saw the glow had left and all that remain was the wrinkles of an old woman. Alma bent her head and rested it on her shoulder and silently wept.
Suddenly she said “It is completely my fault,”
Wilson and Mrs. Ford looked at Alma with quizzical expressions.
“It is not your fault Alma, Aunt Candice was old and it was her time to leave us.” replied Wilson with a touch of sorrow in his voice.
“Oh but it is, if I had not become the new lead......
