There is a disorder in the United States, as well as throughout the world, that has reached epidemic proportions. The disorder is known as obesity(or Morbid Obesity). Obesity is a condition defined as having an extensive amount of extra body fat. It is a disorder that is rapidly increasing in number each year. It is said that one out of three people in the United States are considered morbidly obese.
Everyone has a certain percentage of body fat in the body in order for it to perform natural functions such as energy storage, heat insulation and shock absorption. The percentages for each gender differ in diagnosing obesity. If an individuals body fat percentage is over the average (25% in females and 15% in males), then he or she is considered obese. A woman’s range of being considered obese is 30% and greater body fat, while a man’s range is 25% and greater (Mathur).
