Members of The Beatles included: George Harrison (1943-2001), John Lennon (1940-1980), Paul McCartney (1942- ), and Richard Starkey (1940- ). The name "The Beatles" stemmed from the words "beat" as in rhythm and "beetles" the bug. Harrison, Lennon, McCartney, and Starkey wanted to pay homage to Buddy Holly and the Crickets, a rock and roll band. The Beatles considered Elvis Presley and Buddy Holly as their biggest influences because they laid the foundations of rock and roll and inspired them to experiment with unconventional instruments and sound effects. The Beatles gained popularity during the postwar baby boom generation. Their innovative styles and lyrics inspired a generation characterized by drugs, rock and roll, and mini skirts. The Beatles influenced the culture of Europe and were innovators in music during the second half of the twentieth century.
One of the Beatles' most controversial songs was Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, which appeared on the 1967 album, Sgt.......
