INTRODUCTION
Edgar Allen Poe was a very quiet, shy man on the surface but behind his stories and his poems was a much more complex and troubled individual. Most of his stories and poems were very dark and frayed. Was Poe creating classic characters, or was he simply masking himself in his work? The stories he wrote were a small glimpse into his tortured mind and soul.
THE TELL TALE HEART
In a Poe classic, The Tell Tale Heart, the main character wants to kill the old man, not for his money, or because he had wronged him, but because of his torturous eye. “I think it was his eye! Yes, it was this! One of his eyes resembled that of a vulture- a pale blue eye, with a film over it. Whenever it fell upon me, my blood ran cold; and so by degrees- very gradually- I made up my mind to take the life of the old man, and thus rid myself of the eye forever.” (Poe, 1110) One night, he completes the act and kills the old man and cuts off his head, arms, and legs and......
