In our society there has been a lot of progress in treating mental health. I remember stories in history class of a time not so long ago when abuse and abandonment were considered ways of treating loved ones with mental disorders. We have come a long way and the help is out there. The problem now is the stigma attached to receiving this help.
I have not personally experienced depression or extreme anxiety, but several of my loved ones have. My mother and sister have struggled with depression as long as I can remember and they take prescription medications that help them deal with that challenge. I worked with a sweet lady who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Her life looked exhausting to me. When she was in a manic phase she felt good but it was like she had main lined coffee into her veins. She also dressed very different.
