A childless couple who chooses the path toward in vitro fertilization understand the meaning of the word “multiple”, but the word “risk is far more important. Multiples are far more common in 2008 because of in vitro fertilization and soon to be parents seem willing to take whatever comes their way. Science is becoming better at detecting a healthy embryo from a unhealthy one, but according to the “New York Times” article “Lowering Odds of Multiple Births”, much is to be achieved. In vitro fertilization began in1980 and has become increasingly popular as parents choose to begin families later in life. With multiple pregnancies being not only high risk but costly, fertility clinics should take every precaution with IVF, even though parent may oppose the clinic’s decision. Fertility doctors are becoming increasingly aware of the risks and are beginning to develop a better path for in vitro couples.
