Alexander Hamilton: Father of the FED
Born on Nevis, a British colonial island, in 1755 Hamilton was the illegitimate child of James Hamilton , a lesser Scottish noble, and Rachel Lavien, wife to the French physician John Lavien. Being the product of an adulterous affair Hamilton bore stigma of a bastard child only to be further beset upon in 1765 when his father abandoned his mother, brother and himself in St. Croix. Leaving the family almost wholly destitute. In 1769, at age eleven, Hamilton’s mother died leaving him with a desperation to leave the tiny little island and find his fortune. To a friend he wrote that he would be willing to risk his life, though not his character, to raise himself out of the rut he felt himself slipping, “I wish,” he exclaimed, “there was a war”(Miller 5).
The trying experiences of his youth did not embitter Hamilton against the world so much as they instilled in him an inextinguishable desire to conquer it. Pride and fierce......
