The Ethnic group that I personally belong to is White American and I have also been told that my father is part German American. In 1850 it was simple to describe a White American. Mostly he or she was of Anglo-Saxon background and or Protestant. However, after the Civil War, Immigrants proved that differently coming from Southern and Central Europe. These people were not Protestant and not Anglo-Saxon and had different languages and cultures from those who preceded them. These days in the year 2008 it is almost next to impossible to describe a White American, however you can possibly highlight some experiences and contributions of major White ethnic groups who immigrated to this country.
