While reading Richard Morin’s “Political Ads and The Voters They Attract,” I started to think about how much our society is able to be manipulated through television commercials, magazine ads, and other sources of public information. With all of the advertisements out there it is easy to forget that not everything we see in print is true-in fact, most of it is exaggerated in some sort or just false information. A great deal of people within our society will admit to being intrigued by those gossip magazines that are strategically placed in the lines at every grocery store. Headings such as “Britney’s mental breakdown” and “Angelina’s horrific labor stories” are sure to catch anybody’s attention. The only problem is, how do we know what to believe?
Gossip magazines first started hitting the shelves in the early 1900s with their opening magazine, Broadway Brevities. The initial goal of the magazine was to cover information about the theater news......
