Frederick Winslow Taylor (20th March 1856 – 21th March 1915) was born to an affluent family. Educated early by his mother (Emily Annette Winslow Taylor) studied two years in France and Germany. ‘Taylor had in 1872 enrolled at Philips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire.’(Robert, 1996) Taylor took up night study at Stevens Institute of Technology due to the lack of scientific education. ‘Taylor never attended classes except to take examinations, and he graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1883’(Hartye, 1991)
Taylor works his way up all the way to management level, started from industrial apprentice patternmaker, gaining shop-floor experience at Enterprise Hydraulic Works. In 1878 Taylor’s career advanced when he became a machine shop labourer at Midvale Steel Works. He was promoted to gang-boss, foreman, research director and chief engineer at Midvale.
