American waistlines are continuing to grown with each passing year; causing severe health problems plaguing our lives and cutting lives shorter then generations past. Approximately 25 percent of children and teenagers are obese and the number is on the rise. Since the1960's childhood obesity has increased by 54 percent in children ages six to eleven. In children twelve to seventeen it has increased by 39 percent. (Cutler, 93) Childhood obesity is so prevalent among these age groups that it has reached epidemic proportions. It’s time to work on a plan to combat these rates and bring our body mass index down. First, by identifying the causes of obesity and then by working on a solution.
