Thomas H. Benton, also known as William Pannapacker, wrote a semi-formal article named “The Year of Dressing Formally” and addressed how he has continued to change his lifestyle through changing clothing styles after losing forty pounds. In this article, Benton presented places to find information regarding the history and long-lasting traditions in style, but also noted how his change in apparel has affected his professional life as an English professor at the liberal arts school, Hope College in Holland, Michigan. According to Benton as he tried to fit in with the other English professors at the university, he “started to dress like [he] worked in a bait-and-tackle shop.” The main point is that Benton wished to establish a wardrobe that would not embarrass him and would last for years. A side effect of the changes Benton made is that his students and colleagues started accepting Benton in a more professional manner and the morale of his students......
