Assignment: The Vietnam War

The war in Vietnam was fought from 1964 until 1975. It is also known as the second Indochina war or the people in Vietnam like to call this war “The American War”. North Vietnam and guerilla fighters from the south, also known as the Vietcong, were fighting American and South Vietnamese soldiers. It doesn’t matter how the war is called it was one of the worst wars for American soldiers. The terrain was mountainous, jungle that was so dense, it was almost impossible to penetrate. The climate it Vietnam was humid and hot, which made it unbearable for soldiers to carry the heavy equipment. Helicopters also played a huge role in the Vietnam War. Soldiers were flown into battle by the Bell UH 1 or better known under the name “Huey”. US Troops had to rely on these helicopters to conduct Medivacs and to resupply American soldiers with water, food, ammunition and medical supplies.
