"Dulce Et Decorum Est" by Wilfred Owen is a gruesome antiwar poem that graphically describes how World War I was like from his perspective. "Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori," the last two lines of the poem, literally mean "Sweet and honorable it is, to die for the fatherland"(Poupard 228). The poem is strategically broken into four stanzas by Owen as the most effective method of showing to the reader how times were really like back in the times of World War I. While from the surface "Dulce Et Decorum Est" seems like just another poem on war, it is more than that because it was written as the poets life actually occurred which therefore made it both more realistic and more graphic.
