How does Samuel Taylor Coleridge show the nature of imaginative journeys?


Throughout his poems Samuel Taylor Coleridge shows the nature of imaginative journeys through the use of language techniques such as, selective vocabulary, figurative language, contrasts, rhythm and sound devices such as alliteration and assonance. Samuel Taylor Coleridge uses his imagination as a tool in many of his poems to explore ideas and issues, which creates a fictional world that echoes Coleridge’s imagination. The nature of the imaginative journey is therefore expressed as a means through which the intangible and unknown can be marveled in.

When you look beyond the context you will find that you are drawn into his imaginary world in poems such as ‘Kubla Khan’ and ‘This lime-tree bower my prison’, both poems display a broad range of language techniques to generate enough visual imperatives for the reader to go on their own journey, as a result showing the power of Coleridge’s......
