I chose to do my paper on “Making Ends Meet”. This is a very controversial topic. Should the government help single mothers more? Should single mothers help themselves more? This reading believes that the government should look at way to help single mothers subsidize their income, whether it be with childcare assistance, housing assistance, medical assistance, or all of the above. This is a tender subject with me because I am a single mother.

I have been a single mother twice in my lifetime. My first husband thought that welfare was the way to survive. We had a one year old son at the time. I thought that it was a joke or something of the sort. I knew that jobs were scarce in our area so we move to a different state. Jobs were plentiful there for a healthy male. You have to remember that this was in the 1980’s where unskilled women accepted the minimum wage positions. I found work right away, but......
