The Peoples Republic of China, the United States of America, and Soviet Union all took part in the Vietnam War. Although all fought, the lessons learned by these different nations, concluding the war, were different.
The United States government lost the trust of its people after losing this war. The way foreign policy was run in the U.S. would drastically change. The Americans also recognized that military force should not be the only way to change something. The difference between military, social, economic, psychological, and other forces were recognized. “Popular Legitimacy” began, due to the difference between the government, military, and the public. This is when the public can help decide what action to take, if any. In Angola, years after the war in Vietnam, the public decided to stay out of the crisis in this nation. Most times when “popular legitimacy” is put into affect, the United States takes inaction and remains outside the battlegrounds.
