The sixth stage of psychosocial development is young adulthood. During this stage people must learn to become intimate with another person while also keeping their individuality. This stage usually lasts between the ages of 19 and 30, but it is more determined by each individual. Some tend to get through the state very quickly in only a few years, while others it may take decades. People develop mature genitally, experience the conflict between intimacy and isolation, and acquire the basic strength of love. (book)
In adolescence, most of the sexual activity is an expression of one’s search for identity and is for their own pleasure. During young adulthood true genitality develops when there is mutual trust and a stable sharing of sexual satisfactions with a loved person.
