2. Chuck Yeager was the first man to break the sound barrier on October 14, 1947, as a pilot. The breaking of the sound barrier contributed the Project Mercury, the United States’ answer to the Soviet Unions’ space program.
3. A. Scott Carpenter was the first human ever to penetrate both inner and outer space. He served as a back-up pilot for John Glenn during preparation for America’s first manned orbital space flight. Carpenter flew the second manned orbital flight on May 24, 1962. Carpenter contribution to America’s space program was helping to send a man onto the moon.......
