Critical Essay

In Japanese architecture there are no comparable architects with so many built works as Shin Takamatsu. The style of his work, often referred to as “High Tech” or “Dead Tech” seems to have its aesthetic base somewhere in between the evocative machines of the industrial revolution and the futuristic cities of anime and Manga. But the theoretical basis gives much greater insight into the generation of the forms, and it is this that I will attempt to analyse to try and provide alternative insight into the work of another architect, Frank Gehry, by doing this I hope to find insight into the academic interests in the clash of these two architectural minds.

In the Architecture and Nothingness reading by Maurizio Vitta, it is stated that ‘Takamatsu treats architecture as a literary work’ , in the most simple metaphorical sense, implying that the form is the combination of a series of varying elements......
