I paid a visit to the Mark Twain House & Museum on Saturday, August 30 and learned many interesting facts about both the man known as Samuel Clemens a.k.a. Mark Twain and the time period in which he lived. The house, located in Hartford, Connecticut was built in 1874. The years that Twain and his family lived there were described as their happiest and most productive years. Twain resided there with his wife, Olivia, and daughters Susie, Jean and Clara. The house was described as elegant and luxurious for its time and certainly looked so. It was very spacious with three floors. The size and grandeur of the house reflected the high social status of Twain and his wealthy wife. The house had nice features such as indoor heating that were very rare at the time. Despite the enormous size, the house looked very homey. In addition to several bedrooms, the library or what we may call family room today was quite stunning.
