Schizophrenia is a group of severe disorders characterized by innappropiate emotions and actions, disorganized and delusional thinking, and disturbed perceptions. People with schizophrenia can have positive symptoms or negative symptoms. Positive symptoms are the presence of inappropiate behavoirs and negative symptoms are the absence of appropiate behavoirs. In the movie, John Nash’s symptoms are primarily positive ones. He exhibits inappropriate behaviors and has a hard time fitting in with the rest of society. He cannot function with people around him and stuggles with relationships, such as with his friends and family. Nash does have extreme hullucinations in the film, which is a symptom of schizophrenia. Hallucinations are sensory experiences without sensory stimulation, such as seeing, tasting, or smelling things that are not there.
