Listening seems to be such a simple concept. We do it every day, from the youngest child to the oldest adult. However, unless one is actively listening, one could be missing quite a bit of information. Active listening calls for the listener to devote their full attention to what is being said. Active listeners show that they are genuinely interested in the subject at hand.

According to Elliot Jaffa, PH.D, a Virginia based Psychologist; active listening is the polar opposite of what each of us does every day. Active listening is akin to learning a second language. It seems more people are concerned with what they want to say, than with what someone else is saying to them.
