Eating Disorders
Eating disorders are illnesses that cause a person to adopt harmful eating habits or cause severe changes in a persons eating behavior . An eating disorder can be a potentially life-threatening neurotic condition, that deals with the involvement of insufficient or excessive food intake. They are most common among teenage girls and women. “According to the third addition of The Fundamental of Psychology ninety-percent of those diagnosed with eating disorders are females. Males are also suffering at increasing rates from these disorder as well. Eating disorders frequently occur along with other psychiatric disorders such as depression and anxiety disorders. Poor nutrition is linked with eating disorders that can harm organs in the body and, in severe cases, lead to death. The two most common types of eating disorders are anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa” (Kosslyn & Rosenberg 2007).
