In the late eighteen nineties Kate Chopin wrote two ground breaking short stories about housewives in that time period, “The Story of an Hour” and ”The Storm”. While reading “The Story of an Hour” and ”The Storm” the reader notices an ongoing theme of women who are unhappy or not satisfied with their marriages. In both of Kate Chopin’s short stories weather is used as exemplify women that are not satisfied with their current marriages. For the time period Chopin’s stories were unconventional and ahead of their time. Things such as adultery or being impassionate towards your husband had almost been unheard of in novels and short stories of Chopin’s time.
In “The Story of an Hour” the protagonist Louise is sitting in a two story home located in a city overlooking a square. Chopin describes the setting in vivid color with “new spring life” and “a distant song which someone was playing”. Mrs.......
