I believe that Jay Gatsby strongly relates to the theme “Finding America”. Jay Gatsby grew up in a life of poverty. He didn’t want to remain poor for the rest of his life but he wanted the exact opposite which was the wealthy, glamorous life. He fell in love with a rich girl named Daisy and he even lied to her about his financial status just so she could think that he was good enough to talk to her.
Jay Gatsby symbolizes the American Dream. Motivation is one of his strongest character traits. I say this because he is determined to win back his sweetheart, Daisy, after he returns from the war even though she is married. Gatsby recreated himself and changing his name from James Gatz to Jay Gatsby was a part of the process. He climbed the ladder from a poor rural boy to a millionaire. Who would’ve expected that? Generosity also is noticed in Gatsby’s character since he throws fancy parties weekly. The parties he threw were large so he must have been generous with his money.......
