The goal of these programs is to prepare individuals to become entry-level dietetics practitioners who are experts of food and nutrition, who promote optimal health, and who strive to improve the nutritional status of the public (Jay and Hoffman, 2000). Dietetic internships are offered across the United States in either a traditional (on-site internship experience, typically within a specific radius of the institution) or distance setting (off-site internship experience, typically Internet-based).
