Back in the 1900’s there were many African Americans that were aspiring to be writers. Two of which, that have been important to both American and African American history, were Maya Angelou and Langston Hughes. Even though Hughes was born twenty-five years before Angelou and had many differences, they are still very much alike.
“Champion of the World” and “Salvation” was written by Angelou and Hughes. Both stories were about fitting in with their “group”, and troubling past of the average African Americans. The stories were about their childhood experience. In addition, they both dealt with African Americans coming together for a common cause. The two stories plots both take place in crowded place, though ones in a church and the other a convent store. However, Angelou was dealing with a social issue while Hughes was more personal.
