Ingmar Bergman (1918 - 2007) was a Swedish film, stage and opera director and he is recognized as one of the greatest and most influential filmmakers of modern cinema. Although the title of his acclaimed 1957 “Wild Strawberries” is actually a translation from the original Swedish “ Smultronstallet” (which literally means “ The Wild Strawberries Patch), it is easy for the modern viewer to spot a similarity with the 2001 American film “Vanilla Sky.” Director Cameron Crowe, like Bergman, chose to construct the film’s title around the use of two words: “Vanilla Sky.” Like Strawberries, Vanilla is a botanical plant widely grown throughout the world and used to add flavor to such products as dairy and sweet desserts.
