Prior to reviewing sociologists for this assignment, I was confident that I would end up choosing Emile Durkheim to write about. I’ve always had an interest in him based on some basic knowledge regarding his theories on religion. Upon doing research I learned of the differences between Durkheim and other sociologist. For example, his differences with Weber regarding motivations of individuals, and those with Spencer regarding the evolution of society. I decided to stick with my first sociologist of interest since his theories are a little more profound and allow for more questions and comparison with my own individual ideas.
Durkheim is claimed to be one of the founding fathers of sociologist and I believe he holds all the rights to have claim to that name. He never limited himself to one specific area of sociological study but dabbed in just about every subject from law to religion to suicide.
