Sex and the City: Sex and the Single Woman

Sex and the City is a comedy series on HBO based on the lives of four single women in their 30’s, living in New York City, trying to succeed in life and love. The show captures all the trials and tribulations, in and out of bed, women go through while trying to find the perfect mate. Between the four ladies, they spend most of their time searching for the perfect pair of Jimmy Choo shoes, sipping Cosmopolitan’s at social events and engaging in meaningless conversation with all the wrong men. Sex and the City has been on the air since 1998. From the beginning, Sex and the City has captivated viewers by showing them it is okay to be a strong, independent woman who isn’t afraid to talk about sex, contrary to what society thinks women should be conversing about. By talking lightheartedly about the act of sex, the viewers are able to see sex in a different way instead of viewing the topic as taboo.
