The period from 1870 to 1890 in America was commonly known as the Gilded Age, an era of growth and expansion of modern industrial economy in a U.S. where population growth increased and people scrambled for wealth during the post-Civil War and post-Reconstruction era.
During late nineteenth century America, a national transportation and communication network was created. The production of iron and steel rose dramatically and western resources like gold, and silver increased the demand for improved transportation. Railroads moved goods from the West which became populated by a number of Americans pushing the surviving Indians into reservations and conflicts
