America was the hope to many people in poorer countries that their lives could be better if they were to immigrate to America, it promised people freedom and equality but this was not always the case when people tried to find this.
America promised people equality, equality for women and people with different religious beliefs, it also promised equality for people who were usually seen as lower class, black people for example. People believed that it would be easier and quicker to get jobs and they would be happy because of this.
