Arthur Miller was born on October 17, 1915 in New York City. His father Isidore Miller was ladies wear manufacturer shoe keeper, ruined in the great depression. This sudden change had a great influence on Miller’s writings. The family moved to a small frame home in Brooklyn. This is said to be the mold for the Brooklyn home in Death of a Salesman. Miller spent his younger year playing football and baseball. In his spare time, he also had a passion for reading adventure stories. Miller graduate from High School in 1932. To earn money for college Arthur Miller worked in an automobile parts warehouse. He began his career as a playwright at the University of Michigan.
His first successful play was entitled All My Sons which was produced in 1947. Two years later, Miller wrote Death of a Salesman. That play won the Pulitzer Prize and gave Miller national notability.
