At the end of 1991, the Soviet Union ceased to exist as a communist country, but today, five countries still retain this ideology, one of which is Vietnam. Vietnam has endured Chinese rule, colonialism by the French, Japanese occupation, and two major wars. With the reunification of North and South Vietnam in 1975, Vietnam emerged with Ho Chi Minh’s guiding principles of Marxist-Leninism under the political auspices of the Vietnamese Communist Party (VCP). During the 1980s, the VCP realized that economic reform was paramount in order to survive in the international arena. Since then, the VCP has liberalized their economy and sustained growth......
