Description

This profile attempts to develop a recommendation for effective teaching of a group. The group is at HND level and comprises a broad range of learners from school leavers to adult returners. The group is mixed sex, mixed age and mixed ability.

Group Size

This is nominally a group of fifteen students. For various reasons, however, the group’s size can vary between eight and twelve students in one class group. While this is a comfortable number to teach, the shifting nature of the group makes consistency between lectures difficult.

In addition the large amount of group work required for the course causes problems when different students are absent on different days. This is rather less of a problem as peer pressure ensures that groups members feel under pressure to contribute to group work.
