Charles A. Lindbergh was born on Feb. 4, 1902 in Detroit, Michigan. The family he lived with was his mother, Evangeline and his father, C.A. Lindbergh. When he was younger, his favorite hobbies were playing with model planes. The first 18 years of his life was spent on his family’s farm near Little Falls, Minnesota.
In 1924, Lindbergh entered a U.S. Army flying school at San Antonio, Texas. He graduated first in his class the following year. In 1926, he became the first airmail pilot between Chicago, Illinois, and St. Louis, Missouri. While he was in Missouri, he looked for a new challenge. He attempted to win the $25,000 prize for completing the first nonstop flight from New York to Paris. This reward was first offered by a hotel owner named Raymond Orteig in 1919. No one had won it yet. He got some investors to back him for this flight. Lindbergh helped design the single engine plane. He called it the Spirit of St. Louis. On May 20,......
