Galileo Galilei was an Italian physicist, mathematician, philosopher, scientist, artist, and astronomer, who was in pursuit of the truth and kicked off the birth of the scientific revolution. Galileo transformed Aristotle's logic of nature into mathematical, experimental physics. Aristotle's views on the Earth and the heavens dominated Europe for over 2000 years. No person prior to Galileo had solid evidence that the Earth was not stationary and it revolved around the sun. Additionally, the Roman Catholic Church had no theological explanation for Galileo's discoveries, thus deeming his work as heresy.
Galileo Galilei was born on February 15, 1564 in Pisa, Italy during the late Renaissance era. He was the oldest of five and the son of the great Italian musical theorist/composer Vincenzo Galilei. During his younger years, Galileo seriously considered joining the priesthood. Against his father’s wishes, he entered the monastery of Santa Maria at Vallombrosa in the Tuscany......
