This could account for how astonishingly, at age 3, he had perfect pitch. Gould was a recluse at school. "Even as a child Glenn was isolated because he was working like hell to be a great man. He had a tremendous feeling and loving affection for music... It was an utter, complete feeling. He knew who he was and where he was going."1 Gould’s exceptional talent in music began to excel rapidly. At the age of ten, he began to study at the Toronto Royal Conservatory of Music. At age 12, he won the piano trophy in the annual Kiwanis Music Festival and at age 14 he was presented a diploma with highest honours for his completion of his music theory examination. So engulfed by his music, Gould never finished high school.
