Compare and contrast manipulation in A Doll’s House and Miss Julie

Males and females have different ways of manipulating others to fulfill their own needs and wants, which we can clearly see in A Doll’s House and Miss Julie. In Ibsen’s A Doll’s House we observe a distressed Nora who throughout the play is manipulated by her husband and a man called Krogstad. But on the other hand, Nora’s manipulating power is also equally strong as compared to Torvald’s. Similarly, in Strindberg’s Miss Julie we clearly see manipulative Jean who uses Miss Julie to achieve his biggest dream of buying a hotel and Miss Julie on the other hand manipulates Jean to fulfill her sexual desires. Oxford dictionary defines manipulation as “exerting shrewd or devious influence especially for one’s own advantage. In both plays, we find such kind of circumstance.
