South Africa is much like the U.S. as it does not have just one culture, it is a mixture of many cultures. Often referred to as the “rainbow nation” (sa-venues.com 2008) South Africa is one of the world’s most diverse nations. Some of the most common cultures that do exist in the country are South African (45 million), Blacks (31 million), White (5 million), Coloured (3 million), and Indian (1 million). Having many different types of cultures makes is usually grounds for discrimination. One of the most infamous city’s exposed to this type of atmosphere is the city of Cape Town. Cape town is the city in South Africa which is the meeting place of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. In the 1600’s Cape Town was founded as one of the first European settlements, which enabled it to become what it is today, a melting pot, a society of many different cultures.
