Topic: Alcohol abuse and its impact on academic performance

Problem
There is very little doubt that alcohol has a damaging effect on a student’s academic performance. In recent research done one national study showed that students that graduated with an A average consumed 3.3 drinks per week on average. Students in the D through F range averaged 9.0 drinks per week. In that same study students have admitted that a reason for poor performance on a test or project could be blamed on alcohol abuse that night/day. With these two statistics looked at it is obvious that alcohol can drag down performance in the classroom.

Another national study conducted at four-year colleges and universities by Henry Wechsler of the Harvard School of Public Health found that, since the beginning of the school year, nearly one-third of high-risk drinkers had missed class and 21 percent had fallen behind in their school work because of their drinking.
